Challenge
The vision for Cornerstone was a space where patients, young and old, sick and well, could all equally enjoy a comfortable atmosphere that offers a variety of settings. The challenge was to do this while providing enough seating to accommodate both patients and staff for the busy schedule of each medical practice housed within the Westchester building.
Solution
The Storr/Barbour Spangle team embraced Dr. Terrell’s vision for the building. The assignment was to specify and select furnishings and fabric options, conduct a “test drive” for board members to choose from and then form a comprehensive, winning bid response based on the board’s choices.
Storr and Barbour Spangle Design Group worked together to create a comfortable atmosphere that caters to every patient and visitor. Sturdy armchairs around the perimeter of each lobby provide stable, comfortable seating for elderly patients who visit. The free-form pods in the center of each lobby floor provide grouping areas for families and larger groups who want to congregate.
Fun, bright and sunny children’s areas accommodate both parent and child. The soothing, private Women’s Imaging lobby area is a tranquil place to wait. Staff members enjoy the comfortable yet energizing new work and break areas, giving the award-winning Cornerstone at Westchester’s seating project a standing ovation.
