But the existing campus had limited growth potential, so UNC Hospitals chose to construct a new facility—UNC Hospitals Hillsborough—on an 83-acre greenfield site in nearby Hillsborough, North Carolina. Designed by ZGF Architects and developed as part of a master plan for phased growth, the new medical center was created to adapt to new healthcare innovations, promising to keep it on the cutting edge of patient care.
