The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly of Materials Chemistry - A luncheon/CEU session presented by Melissa Desota, Global Environmental Sustainability Team for Steelcase

March 22, 2010 - 11:30 Registration, Noon to 1 PM Luncheon and Session -

An abstract:
It’s amazing, the progress our society has made, even in the last 100 years. Moving from the industrial age to the information age. From horses to cars, handwritten letters to Morse code, to the Internet and MySpace. What we haven’t fully realized is that the progress comes with a huge price tag. Some things that we take for granted as "good" –or things that we think have made our lives easier…haven’t.

When we come to a deeper understanding of a particular material that is in a product or a particular process that is used to create a new product, we begin to realize the impact of the choices we make each day.

It’s why we are here today –to explore how the material choices we make –as consumers, architects, designers, facilities managers, project managers…each day –can have either a positive or negative impact on human health, and the health of the planet.

Come and experience the good, the bad, and the ugly of materials selection.
