Spaces are limited. \nCEU Presentation\nThinking Outside the Bus Station – Seating Preferences and Perceptions in Waiting Spaces \nMichelle Ossmann\, MSN\, PhD\, Director Healthcare Environments\, Steelcase Health\n \nA clinician-architectural researcher and Director of Healthcare Environments at Steelcase Health\, Michelle Ossmann is dedicated to improving healthcare quality and safety through design research. While practicing as a staff nurse in the emergency department at Grady Memorial Hospital\, Atlanta\, GA\, Michelle returned to Emory for graduate work and spent the next 7 years as a neurocritical care nurse practitioner at Emory University Hospital. It was during the redesign of her own ICU that Michelle saw the need for clinician expertise from within design. Her doctoral training under the mentorship of Dr. Craig Zimring\, a world-renowned expert in evidence-based design and healthcare quality and safety\, and Dr. Sonit Bafna\, an architect and expert on the analytical study of architecture\, particularly the spatial and visual organization of buildings\, provided a strong foundation in research design and methodologies for translating knowledge into practice. Michelle’s experience goes beyond clinical and academic work as principal of her own consulting firm prior to joining Steelcase Health. Supporting Duke University Health System and several major healthcare furnishings firms\, Michelle conducted rigorous in-house research studies using multiple methodologies including spatial morphology\, evaluated and contributed to product and architectural design\, and facilitated client reviews with an environment – behavior perspective. At Steelcase Health\, Michelle directs the research program in healthcare environment design and supports product development. Additionally\, Michelle leads the application design team and supports the applied research consultancy for health. \nMichelle graduated from the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing\, Emory University in Atlanta\, GA in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Magna Cum Laude) and in 2001 with a Master of Science in Nursing. She earned a PhD in Architecture from Georgia Institute of Technology in March 2016. Michelle resides in Greenville\, SC with her family. \n\nCEU Presentation / Lunch (lunch will be provided)\nImprove the Experience • Strengthen the Brand – Intuitive Design Strategies for a Pediatric Healthcare Environment \nRachel Windham\, IIDA\, SEGD\, LEED AP\, Senior Associate\, WHR Architects – Dallas \nRachel’s presentation was titled “Improve the Experience\, Strengthen the Brand: Intuitive Design Strategies for a Pediatric Hospital.” Her abstract read: Design strategies that incorporate fully branded interior design concepts and intuitive design and wayfinding strategies are emerging as key initiatives for health care institutions seeking to improve public perceptions. Nationally recognized as one of the best children’s hospitals of 2013-2014\, Children’s Medical Center in Dallas desired a long-range high-level plan to address branding and wayfinding issues. This session presents Children’s Medical Center as a case study example that explores the transformative effects of design strategies that support branded interior design\, intuitive design\, and wayfinding. She co-presented with Judd Orlando\, Director of Planning\, Design & Construction at Children’s Medical Center Dallas. \nSusannah Hills\, RID\, Sr. Project Design Manager\, Children’s Health – Dallas \nSusannah Hills is the Senior Project Designer Manager at Children’s Health and has 26 years of interior design and project management experience which has included corporate\, hospitality and healthcare experience. She is a Registered Interior Designer in the state of Texas. \n\nCEU Presentation\nPreventive Biocidal Surfaces – Expanding the Scope of Interior Design \nBebhinn Gray\, Specification Representative\, Web-Don \nBebhinn Gray is a Specifications Representative with Web-Don\, Inc. Carrying a marketing degree from UNC she moved to North Carolina from the Philadelphia area in 1995. After a highly successful career in the modern furniture industry\, Bebhinn joined forces with Web-Don’s distribution team four years ago. Hosting over a dozen lines of interior finishes including Wilsonart\, Hanstone Quartz\, and the acclaimed EOScu Preventive Biocidal Surfaces. Bebhinn works in specifications with healthcare facilities and architects across eastern North Carolina and Virginia representing EOScu for Web-Don\, the exclusive distributor in The Eastern Atlantic Region.
